Check out this article by Tammy Tuck of Washington City Paper's Young & Hungry fame: The Yards.
The scoop is that a new development called The Yards is being planned for a site near National's Park and the Navy Yard. It looks like the site will include mixed residential and commercial including a brewery or brewpub. Birch & Barley / ChurchKey are apparently involved in the planning, though no plans are being made public at this point.
This is another positive development for the Anacostia waterfront area! The decision to build the baseball stadium in Southeast is starting to pay off. Restaurants and bars followed the stadium construction. Arena Stage relocated there in a beautiful new facility. Now that so many new venues are open, there are plenty of great reasons to take Metro's Green Line every night of the week. With The Yards on the horizon, the waterfront in SE is becoming a destination neighborhood.
While I am sure The Yards will get a lot of press, and deservedly so, I am also interested in what is going on with the folks who used to live in Southeast, before Southeast was cool. Where are those folks living now? I doubt their story will be reported as clearly in the news.
