Welcome to PhilosFX, the blog that asks, "If your life were a movie, would anyone watch?" We'll combine philosophy and special effects to explore a wide range of subjects. Some call it, "Technicolor Omphaloskepsis." I call it Life: examined, shared, and truly lived.

Proof Positive that Today is Fermat's 410th Birthday
Story about Andrew Wiles, who proved Fermat's last theorem in 1996 (via WaPo): http://wapo.st/qk3ONx
A concise story in the Christian Science Monitor (hat tip: MCRWS): http://bit.ly/pt2Kbe
And then of course there is Marilyn vos Savant's famous book, which I read and struggled to understand. The bottom line is that Wiles may have proved Fermat's Last Theorem, but he did not find Fermat's own long lost solution. Wiles used non-Euclidean math unavailable to Fermat. http://amzn.to/oJWh9Z
